Pritzker Pucker Year Long Study Abroad Awards
Guidelines for application for the 2004-2005 academic year
These awards are made possible through a generous contribution of $25,000 from the Vince Club Foundation, a gift led by Gigi Pritzker Pucker, an alumna of the UW-Madison College Year in Nepal Program. Awards in the amounts of $1000 - $5000 will be made.
Eligibility requirements
- Students must participate in a program operated by the UW-Madison; preference will be given to UW-Madison degree candidates, and to students who will receive UW-Madison credit for the academic work completed abroad.
- Students must be undergraduates.
- The program of study must be for a full academic or calendar year.
- Students must have at least a 3.0 grade point average to apply.
- Eligible programs for these grants can be in all countries except Western Europe, Canada Australia and New Zealand.
- Preference will be given to students who have studied a language of the host country prior to participation in the program abroad.
- Preference will be given to students participating in programs with one or more of the following components: field study, research, intensive language learning, internship, or service learning.
Application procedure
- Students should prepare an application packet consisting of a transcript, a description of the program they will attend (can be the program brochure or a paragraph drafted by the student), the overall cost of the program, and an essay of up to two pages covering:
- how participation will enhance the student's degree program,
- their plans to further their study of the language and/or the region after the program and
- how the program will support their career goals.
- Three copies of the application packet must be submitted to the Office of International Studies and Programs, 261 Bascom Hall, by 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday March 23.
Award criteria
Awards will be made based on academic merit, course work taken which indicates an interest in the region in which the program is located, and financial need as well as the eligibility requirements listed above.
Responsibilities of recipient
Recipients will be expected to submit a two-page report about the academic experience within 30 days of completion of the program.
