LACIS Project Assistantship
Project Assistant (50% time) - Currently there are no openings.
Position description:
- Assist with initiative with the School of Journalism/Mass Communication/Ag Journalism
- Help plan the forum "Reporting on Latin America-Journalists' Views" (speakers, logistics)
- Construct and administer a student survey of journalism/ag journalism students in dual degree with LACIS
- Other related work establishing journalism/ag journalism-LACIS links
- Assist with the LACIS Internship Initiative; work with the Assistant Director to:
- Develop a new brochure
- Locate new internship sites
- Assist with E-newsletter and E-calendar:
- Gather news; write stories under Associate Director's guidance
- Work with Webmaster, Associate Director and staff to develop E-newsletter format
- Assist with other initiatives, e.g. a new LACIS brochure.
Project Assistantship Criteria:
The Latin American, Caribbean and Iberian Studies Program (LACIS) seeks to make the best possible match between the background, abilities, experience, and academic program of the graduate student and the needs of the Program. LACIS' nationally-recognized Outreach program offers great opportunities for potential applicants. Students of color are strongly encouraged to apply. In general, consideration will be given to the following (not listed in priority order):
- Graduate students
- Proven ability to write in a clear and concise manner
- Proficiency in written and spoken Spanish (knowledge of Portuguese a plus)
- Proven ability to work well with people in an office setting
- Contacts with community-based organizations (preferably Latin American/Latino-related)
- Experience in layout and design
- Good computer skills
Applicants must provide:
- Letter of intent (maximum 2 pages, double-spaced)
- Two letters of recommendation (one from a UW faculty member)
- Copy of graduate transcripts (undergraduate transcripts optional)
- Proof of English and Spanish or Portuguese proficiency (writing sample)
