  • Centro Hispano of Dane County: Offergeneral office support and/or assist individuals needing translation for cultural arts and outreach programs, court cases, ESL courses, housing assistance programs, the community center, or participate in an after school tutoring program at locations all over Madison.   • EDGE Project (Empowering through Development and Gender Equality) is a student organization dedicated to giving students a real-world international development experience by developing meaningful research projects for communities in the developing world, specifically focusing on women’s empowerment. Volunteers and interns will be establishing a partnership with a community in Latin America, and designing and implementing community development projects with that community.   • Envest Microfinance Cooperative is a non-profit loan fund which manages a unique mix of strategies to alleviate poverty and promote an earth-friendly economy. Driven by both social values and sound business practice, such strategies appeal to both ends of the spectrum—lenders and loan recipients. Envest is seeking bilingual volunteers and interns to conduct general office tasks, research on other microfinance institutions and monitoring of Latin American newspapers.   • Family Farm Defenders promotes sustainable agriculture, workers’ rights, fair trade, food sovereignty, consumer safety, animal welfare and global justice.   • “Help for Little Hearts”: Mended Little Hearts is a non-profit organization offering support and education to families with children with congenital heart defects. At the moment, they are seeking volunteers who can assist them in translating educational material into Spanish as they increase their efforts to offer support to the Latino community.   • Madison Arcatao Sister City Project seeks volunteers to assist with various projects to address the following issues in its sister city in El Salvador: human rights, fair trade, community and youth organizing, education, immigration, and the environment.   • Midvale and Lincoln Elementary Schools seek Spanish-speaking Volunteer Tutors for bilingual programs in math and literacy.  Both UW-faculty and students have previously participated in this program and found it very worthwhile and enriching.   • SERRV International (Madison, WI): SERRV International's mission is to promote the social and economic progress of people in developing regions of the world by marketing their products in a just and direct manner.  Their goal is to alleviate poverty and empower low-income people through trade, training and other forms of capacity building as they work to improve their lives. SERRV has worked to assist artisans and farmers for more than 55 years and was one of the first alternative trade organizations in the world and also a founding member of the International Fair Trade Association (IFAT). SERRV International offers volunteer/internship positions in Latin America, as well as opportunities from time-to-time at their Madison headquarters.
